Colts TE Kylen Granson, S Rodney Thomas II to keep wearing Guardian Caps
Indianapolis Colts tight ends Jelani Woods (80) and Kylen Granson (83) work through drills Friday, July 28, 2023, during an indoor practice at Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield, Indiana. Indianapolis Colts tight end Kylen Granson and safety Rodney Thomas II said they plan to wear Guardian Caps during the regular season.
Granson, 26, who spent time in concussion protocol in 2023, was one of several Colts players who wore the protective padding over their helmets during the preseason.
"At one point people thought seatbelts were (expletive) stupid," Granson told The Athletic on Thursday, adding that he wants to protect his long-term brain health.
Granson caught 30 passes for 368 yards and one touchdown in 15 games (seven starts) last season. The 2021 fourth-round pick out of SMU has 72 receptions for 776 yards and one TD in 45 games (11 starts) with the Colts.
Thomas, 26, also told The Athletic that he will wear a Guardian Cap. Thomas played in 17 games (15 starts) last season and made 34 tackles with four passes defended and two interceptions.
A seventh-round selection in 2022 out of Yale, Thomas has played in 34 career games (25 starts) in two seasons and has 86 tackles, six interceptions and 10 passes defended.
